GROMACS is Free Software, available under the GNU General Public License.

To install the program, you have to compile it from source unless you are running Linux on x86. We do provide RPMs since they can be optimized for all x86 processors in one binary (the type of assembly loop is selected at runtime - we use both 3DNow instructions for AMD and SSE for Intel processors). For other operating systems we would have to provide a whole set of packages since the compiler flags depend on the type of processor and external libraries present.

In Download/Upload  to the left you can find the different versions of the GROMACS source code, with a brief release history. You can also find RPM packages for Linux, unsupported binaries provided by our users and external links or local copies of other software packages, both programs that might be necessary to install GROMACS and analysis/visualization tools that we find useful.

If you wonder if a certain bug has been fixed or know more about minor modifications we also provide an extensive list of  changes, bugfixes and revisions.

Finally, you can check out the contributed software in Download/Upload  to the left, that contains external utility programs written by our users and modifications to the Gromacs source code.
